(123rd day, 242 more days to go)

FB Post: Okay, I’m getting a pedicure & in walks a Mama w/ her 3 year old daughter. The Nail Lady says hello to the little girl & addresses her by name. She says, “What color do you want today?” SO, I have to ask, How old would you let your daughter START getting her nails/feet done? AND how often????????

“Crazy” Baby Mamas’ Comment: Sorry, Mamas but I may get “virtually” beat up on this topic and I may be a little old school but my daughter is 10 years old and I refuse to get her hooked in expecting to get mani/pedi’s at a young age. YES, I agree with teaching her to take pride in her appearance heck I taught her to never leave home without a pair of earrings on because it “enhances’ her beauty but it’s okay if she forgets to. Just Love Herself the way she is. I don’t want her to believe that she needs superficial things like weaves, fake nails, eyelashes, etc to MAKE her feel beautiful. She IS beautiful in her NATURAL state and going to get her nails done is not the way to teach her that. I just believe sometimes we as mothers teach our girls the poor self image that we have about ourselves. Example, if your daughter is overweight & telling her not to eat too much because you don’t like YOUR body image instead of teaching her to love herself the way she is and introducing a “fit” lifestyle. We can’t get sucked in by the media’s standard of beauty & impose our own self-hate onto our daughters whether we know it or not. There’s a big difference with giving your daughter Grooming tips vs Beauty Tips. Just sayin’ (Maxx)
