Review: Awkward Black Girl

(189th day, 176 more days to go)

Here’s an online show that I’ve discovered that I think is good. Why? Because it goes far and beyond what Hollywood offers as far as shows that people want to watch. You have people like the creator of this show, Issa Rae, who believe in their project and don’t want to wait until an investor/producer shops it around for them hoping that a network will pick up or purchase their show.  What happens is the creator loses all creative control and gets paid thousands of dollars to let the professionals take over.  These professionals are usually clueless people who develop YOUR vision into what the masses wants.  A lot of people are not willing to do that.  Instead, aspiring writers and directors are using their own money or take the money they raised to shoot their sh**.  This show breaks barriers because there aren’t any shows with this many people of color on it.  Based on the number of YouTube views, this show has a lot of fans.  Even if you don’t like it, there are shows like this called webisodes (episodes specifically made for websites/online) popping up everywhere on YouTube and various websites.  Support those shows and soon enough Hollywood executives will start listening…HOPEFULLY!
